EasyUbuntu script

One of the big (and regular) complaints that I hear over and over again hear is that “Ubuntu doesn’t play my MP3’s” and it doesn’t straight out of the box.

Ubuntu uses only open/free formats like Ogg Vorbis, so it doesn’t include playback support for formats such as MP3, Windows Media Audio (WMA), and Audio Video Interleave (AVI) that may have some restrictions (Microsoft owns your first born… it says so in the EULA). If your country has no such restrictions or legal issues with these formats, the Restricted Formats article on the Ubuntu wiki can help you install software that plays such files.

Now if you just want to push a button and have it all work, have a look at EasyUbuntu

EasyUbuntu is an easy to use script that gives the Ubuntu user the most commonly requested apps, codecs, and tweaks that are not found in the base distribution – all with a few clicks of your mouse through one of those new fangled GUI’s.

EasyUbuntu is dead easy to use and you could be playing encrypted dvds, streaming Windows Media, and sporting the latest Nvidia or Ati drivers in minutes! And yes, EasyUbuntu is GPL.

(Dapper Drake is going to be the next ubuntu release, currently scheduled for release around June 2006)
