Impediment To Productivity: Wolfgangs Vault

Wolfgang Radio Poster This is just so cool. Talk about taking back your childhood.

The first time I heard Eric Clapton and Cream playing White Room I was sold, I wanted to play guitar, it was that simple. Yeah yeah, so did every other kid in the Sixties and some of them were way better at it than me. But it was the sounds that the musicians pulled out of the guitar back then, they swooped and soared and were dark and mysterious and well quite frankly wonderful.

Now I actually stumbled across this site totally by accident. I was looking for a PHP debug message( never found it ) but I did find this Music From The Filmore and inside 30 seconds I was gone. It was just like running into old friends again. AND it was so LIVE… there is a reason for that

The late Bill Graham and his concert promotion company produced more than 35,000 concerts all over the world. His first venue, the legendary Fillmore Auditorium (and I so wanted to go to show there… still there was the TF Much Ballroom in Melbourne… We will talk about that another day), was home to many of rock’s greatest performers – Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Prince – and the list goes on and on.

It seems that Mr. Graham taped thousands of live performances and stored the tapes in the basement. Vault Radio bought the tapes and is now playing selected tracks from these concerts, songs seem to be added and removed from the lists on a regular basis. They claim they will be broadcasting unaltered live performance music from many of the greatest bands of the last 40 years. “The music you hear on Vault Radio has not been sweetened or polished. You’ll be listening to what the band played that night – nothing more, nothing less”.

Such a cool way to spend a Saturday Morning.

Now while continuing to bathe in this river of nostalgia listening to the radio, why not read something appropriate to the the times. How about the Rolling Stone Interview: Pete Townshend (RS 18, September 28, 1968) by Jann Wenner.

The Who are the best known and most brilliant expression of the most influential “youth movement” ever to take Great Britain, the Mods. Their career began in Shepherd’s Bush, a lower-class suburb of London, and took them through such places as Brighton-by-the-Sea, scene of the great Mod-Rocker battles of the early Sixties. Their first big recording was “My Generation”.

Welcome to my childhood, I am so glad it’s still rolling. Oh and I almost forgot… Turn it up to eleven.
