Monday Morning “Impediment to Productivity” – 20060529

Hi,

Another Monday, another week and another post.

We we will start the week with some contributions from Jools (http://www.joolsweb.com/) I don’t know whether to start a new section called “Impedimentia” just for her or just keep “Blaming” her.

“This is an Impedimentia for your predilection. From weird to weirder yet.

Jools”

Serious bandwidth required but it’s worth it.

Now on the subject of SERIOUS bandwidth, there is this little item also courtesy of Jools.

Elephants Dream is the world’s first open movie, made entirely with open source graphics software such as Blender, and with all production files freely available to use however you please, under a Creative Commons license.

The short film was created by the Orange Open Movie Project studio in Amsterdam during 2005/2006, bringing together a diverse team of artists and developers from all over the world.

OK So before you go download several hundred meg of awesome digital animation, you might like to see what you are getting into. Over at googlevideo you can find a small, low-res clip that will give you a taste of what it’s like. I loved it, Jools wasn’t that sure. Over to you, let me know what you think.

The Sheep Market. Well the story goes like this. The sheep were created by 10,000 people organized through the Amazon “Mechanical Turk”, each participant got 2 cents to draw a “sheep facing left” and this is the result. I’m sorry but I just keep laughing about this one.

Continuing on with small things etc. The photo on this page is made up of tiny photos, which are made up off tinier photos, which are made up off tinier photos, which are made up of tinier photos etc etc. You keep clicking, forever. (Is the fractal recursion or just a great gag?)

This video clip is an amazing domino knockover constructed out of the stuff you find lying around in the game The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (books, swords, corpses, silver balls, you know. Stuff) This is really nicely done.

Flash Game Time – Warp Forest is an action puzzler, you drive a little car around a forest, and the goal of each level is to collect all of the keys on the screen and then return to the exit. But (there’s that word again) it’s nowhere near as simple as that, because there are obstacles, locked gates, and of course the baddies. Most of the levels require you to do things in a specific order (first the wad then the powder then the bullet? No no that’s not right), Turn the volume down and kiss the day goodbye. Ooh it has save slots, you don’t see that very often.

About now your probably thinking it’s time for some music and you’d be right. CC:365 is still running erratically but there is a site I found that had some good stuff on it. It uses a flash player but you just have to remember to keep it open to hear the music. I thought that I would start with Cool Ceili
“Fiddle, flute or accordion is an essential ingredient for the ceili, and all these instruments feature on Cool Ceili, the latest “trad” album to come out of Fermanagh (Northern Ireland). The collection is representative of some of the best in contemporary Ulster song and dance music, and takes advantage of both Irish and Scottish musical traditions.”

Now don’t forget the to pop into the blog ( https://thatchspace.com/ ) for the odd update during the week.

As usual have a good one
