An Address List in GMail

Now you may have noticed that one of the more notable ommissions in GMail is the lack of an Address List, you know you are travelling and paying ruinous rates to use a hotel internet connection is you don’t want to spend $3 a minute tagging everyone from your boss to Spot the dog’s email address one at a time.

Here is a way of getting around it.

  • Click on Contacts (left-side menu)
  • Add Contact (top right corner)
  • Enter a name for the group in the Name field
  • In the Primary Email field start inputting the addresses of group members
  • Here is the trick: leave out the first < and last > brackets. This is how you should do it (substituting the appropriate email addresses):
  • Gmail Address Book Detail
  • Save the address.
  • Once you save it, you can see that GMail puts a bracket around the list of addresses.
You can try it out by clicking on Compose. Next time you want to send a note to this group, just start typing in the group name and the address list will come up as an option.

Thanks to Jim’s Tips for this one. He has a whole bunch of other interesting things you can do with GMail.

If you haven’t got a GMail account send an email to gmail-invite@pretentia.net and I will send you an invite.
