More Open Source goodness. WinDirStat
OK this one comes with a serious “WARNING. WARNING. Will Robinson…. DANGER DANGER”.
WinDirStat is a disk usage statistics viewer and cleanup tool for Microsoft Windows. It reads the whole directory tree once and then presents it in a bunch of useful views:
- The directory list, which resembles the tree view of the Windows Explorer but is sorted by file/subtree size
- The treemap, which shows the whole contents of the directory tree straight away
- The extension list, which serves as a legend and shows statistics about the file types
The picture at left gives you an idea of what it will look like. It is a really powerful and useful program. But you can do a lot of damage with it.
Remember ‘WinDirStat doesn’t kill hard drives… people kill hard drives”. I can’t believe I just wrote that. Oh yeah I am SO going to hell
Update: Have a look in the Comments at Marco’s blog. As well as writing his own (Treepie) there are some other programs listed in the same theme.
I love windirstat, it’s nice… but still i prefere the visualization of mine : http://treepie.sf.net
Thanks Marco,
You should have also mentioned that yours is Open Source (BSD License).
I like some of the other ones you mentioned in your blog.
