And this is why I love the internet.
Live Irish Music on the Radio (sort of) RTE Radio 1 – The Late Session
All of the shows are good but the one show that I will direct your attention to is the 12th June 2005. You will need Real Audio to hear this stuff.
This programme features a concert with flute-player Emer Mayock, guitarist, Donal Siggins, and singer and flautist, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, recorded during the St. Patrick’s Festival at the National Concert Hall in March 2005.
Emer Mayock is an awesome musician Jools and I met back in 1996 at an Amnesty Benefit gig at (synchronously) the National Concert Hall in Dublin. DeDanann and Ronnie Drew were the main acts and Emer and her band were the warm up and I found the performance one of those “hair on the back of the neck” moments. We got to chat with her and her band after the show and then at the drinks across the road later with DeDannan and the other musicians (Frankie Gavin is a charmer). We ended up staying in Dublin an extra day to go hear her play at a pub and sit in on the session. (Damn they play fast).
She’s been playing as a member of Afrocelts Sound System for the last few years and doing sessions on other peoples albums, and looks like she is going back to her own stuff. If she ever comes out to Australia, look for me in the front row.
Check out the show and let me know what you think. Oh she also had a CD out back in 96/97 called Merry Bits of Timber. Very live sound. I love it, very high rotation on my walkman and I noticed on her site she has had a second one out for a while as well. (Bugger there goes another $30). Her site has some MP3’s for you to check out.
Now where is that card so I can just go and order the new one. While I am spending my money you go and listen to the show.
UPDATE: Jools and her Drinking Buddies.
God they can drink
