I have had to use this at least three times in the last week. An amazingly useful little program.
The Belarc Advisor builds a detailed profile of all the installed software and hardware, finds missing Microsoft hotfixes, checks the anti-virus status, runs CIS (Center for Internet Security) benchmarks, and then displays the results in Web browser for your edification. Cool huh?
It runs on Windows 95/98/Me, NT 4, Windows 2000, XP and Windows Server 2003 and really likes IE 5.5 or better, it also runs quite happily on Opera, Mozilla, and Firefox and it’s free for personal use only.
The main thing I use it for is to get all the serial numbers and codes for all your installed programs before I do a reinstall.
It’s been around a long time.
If you don’t want to install a program (or can’t) try Faronics System Profiler . Not as detailed but it will run from a USB key. Faronics make Deep Freeze. A really useful imaging program.
