Hyperscore

Hyperscore ScreenMIT Media Labs has released a free composer for Windows (sadly Windows only for now) called Hyperscore. It will let you compose up to 60 second pieces, perfect for ringtones and backdrops to websites/powerpoint presentations(?).

Checkout some of the samples and ringtones that people have created.

It is seriously simple to use and here is the hype…
“Hyperscore lets composers assemble music using blocks of melodic or rhythmic riffs, called “motives.” A songwriter assembles a collection of motives, represented as a palate of colors. Then, in the program’s sketch window, the composer literally paints the rhythms across the screen. Moving the brush up or down changes the pitch and user-selected harmonizing levels smooth out the sour notes and chords that emerge in the process.”

Now once you have a copy ,what are you going to do with it?

One Guess. That’s right enter the Iron Artist Re-Mix Competition

{ i was going to put in the big long Iron Chef intro , you know Kitchen Stadium, Iron Chefs, Challengers, Allez Cuisine, but thought better of it}

They supply the motives, you cook up the music. The catch (ah yes there always seems to be one of those) – you cannot change the motives, but, you can change everything else – tempo, instruments, and of course everything in the sketch window. Please note! If you change the motives or add new motives you will be disqualified!
(Motives are like templates… there are samples of them supplied with the Download)

The Event Begins on Friday
The mystery motives will be released via .hsc file on Friday, February 17 2006.
Deadline: All music must be submitted via telepathy or the ‘Upload Music’ button in Hyperscore by Sunday, February 26 at 11:59pm EST (that’s the US Eastern Standard Time) to be entered into the Iron Artist Re-Mix Competition.

Download it, you have a couple of days to play around and then step out over the edge.

Allez Cuisine {sorry, I couldn’t help it}
