Make Windows Go Just a bit Faster

Want to squeeze a bit more perfomance out of your XP setup?
Not willing to give up all the eye candy on the desktop?
Got a laptop that chews through the odd battery?

Here’s an idea to give you back a bit of grunt.
DISABLE INDEXING SERVICES

Indexing Services is a small little program that uses large amounts of RAM and can often make a computer hard drive endlessly loud and noisy. This little sucker creates indexes and updates lists of all the files that are on your computer. It does this so that when you do a search for something on your computer, it will search faster by scanning the index lists. If you don’t search your computer often, or even if you do search often, this system service is 99% completely unnecessary.

To disable it, do the following:

    Go to Start

    Click Settings

    Click Control Panel

    Double-click Add/Remove Programs
    Click the Add/Remove Window Components
Uncheck the Indexing services (wait while it does it’s thing)
    Click Next

If you have Google desktop or one of it’s competitors you really don’t need this running in background as well.
